Lil Nas X thought he had made it obvious.
But if fans needed more clarity about the “Old Town Road” rapper’s sexuality, he gave it to them on Sunday during the final hours of Pride month. In a tweet, Lil Nas X, 20, pointed to the lyrics of “c7osure,” a song on his debut EP, as confirmation that he identifies as a member of the L.G.B.T.Q. community.
In the song’s lyrics, Lil Nas X sings, “Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow.” Later he says, “This is what I gotta do, can’t be regrettin’ when I’m old.”
Fans then begin to try and pick apart his single “C7osure,” which doesn’t really make it that obvious:
“Brand new places I’ll choose and I’ll go, I know /Embracin’ this news I behold unfolding/ I know, I know, I know it don’t feel like it’s time / But I look back at this moment, I’ll see that I’m fine.”
The rapper received a lot of support online for his brave outing, vowing to protect him at all costs.
Lil Nas X, the rapper known for his viral country-trap hit song, “Old Town Road” appeared to officially come out as gay yesterday. But then he quickly switched gears, and suggested that he was just trolling.
He used Sunday, the last official day of Pride Month to reveal the news to fans:
“Some of y’ all already know, some of y’ all don’t care, some of y’ all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’ all to listen closely to c7osure,” he wrote on Twitter.
Then, about an hour later, he stealthily told fans that he was just joking:
